SURFACE PREPARATION:
For best results, the temperature of the substrate or tile must be between 40F and 95F (4C and 35C) while applying caulk. For proper curing, maintain this temperature range for 72 hours after application. Before applying caulk, make sure that the tiles or stones are firmly set and that the adhesive or mortar is completely dry. Joints must be clean and free of standing water, dust, dirt, and foreign matter. Clean the tile or stone surface to remove dust, dirt, mortar, adhesive, and other contaminants that may cause discoloration.
APPLICATION:
Read all installation instructions before installation. This product may contain high levels of color pigment and may stain some porous materials such as wallpaper, wood, and walls. Use painters tape or shield these areas for protection. Test in an inconspicuous area to determine if staining will occur. Caulking may be done either before or after grouting. Insert tube into a standard caulking gun and cut off tip of tube at a slant to the desired size. Apply caulk into opening using a continuous bead at a 45-degree angle. Smooth with wet denatured alcohol or mineral spirits, putty knife, caulking tool, or gloved finger. Excess caulk should be removed with a damp cloth before the caulk skins over. When applied in areas exposed to moisture allow caulking to cure a minimum of 72 hours at 70 F (21 C) prior to putting the area into use. Complete cure is achieved in 14 to 28 days depending on ambient temperature and humidity.
CLEANING:
Denatured alcohol or mineral spirits is all that is needed to remove excess SikaTile-885 Secure Silicone Caulk while it is still wet. Unused caulk should be capped and stored in a cool, dry place and used within one year.
MOVEMENT JOINTS:
All expansion, control, construction, cold, saw-cut, isolation, contraction, and seismic joints in the structure should continue through the tilework, including such joints at vertical surfaces, as specified per TCNA Method EJ171 or TTMAC Specification Guide 09 30 00, Detail 301MJ.
PROTECTION:
Do not disturb caulk or walk over installed tiles for at least 24 hours after setting. Protect from water exposure until fully cured for at least 72 hours. Allow 24 hours of drying time before painting.
FINAL CLEAN UP:
Clean hands with soap and water. Clean tools and tile with denatured alcohol or mineral spirits before the material dries. Clean up any misapplied sealant with a damp cloth or sponge. Cured sealant may be carefully cut away with a sharp edged tool. Dispose of empty cartridges and saturated sponges according to state and local regulations. Unused portion of sealant should be capped and stored in a cool dry place.
